Sometimes flexibility is the most important thing you need when buying a train ticket. Plans can change, life happens and knowing that your ticket is valid to hop on the train when you need to is essential. That’s where our Anytime tickets come in.
Anytime tickets allow you to buy a Single, Day Return, or Open Return journey starting at any time, and on any day. There’s no need to book well in advance. Simply buy a ticket before you board the train.
Anytime tickets are the most flexible way to travel by train. You can even break your journey at stations along your chosen route. If you’ve got a railcard, be sure to use it when you buy your ticket so you can enjoy a discount off your ticket. Under 5s also travel free, and there’s a 50% discount for 5-to-15-year-olds.

RefundableAnytime tickets are eligible for refunds if you decide not to travel, however a £5 administration fee will be applied. Reservable seatingReservable seating is available on some longer journeys when purchasing an Anytime ticket. However, please note, seat reservations are not available on the majority of ScotRail services. Click here to find out more about seat reservations. Please note, the Off-Peak fares all day long trial, which runs between 2 October 2023 and 31 March 2024, means full refunds will be available for unused Anytime tickets dated 2 October 2023 onwards. The £10 standard refund fee will be waived for these tickets up until 31 October 2023. |

What you need to know
For Single and Day Returns, you must travel on the date shown on your ticket. For Open Returns, your outward journey must be within 5 days of the date shown on your ticket, with the return journey taken within a month of the date shown.

ShareSingle and Day Returns are only valid for travel on the date on your ticket. For Open Returns you must ensure that your outward journey is taken within 5 days, and your return journey within a month, of the date shown on the ticket.
ShareAnytime tickets qualify for Railcard discounts. Under 5s travel free and there’s a 50% discount for 5-15 year olds.
ShareFirst Class ticket upgrades are available on selected city-to-city routes. You can buy a First Class ticket in advance and some routes allow you to upgrade on the train.
First Class Anytime Single tickets are valid for travel within two days of the date shown on your ticket.
ShareSeat Reservations are not available on the majority of ScotRail services. You can reserve a seat on some longer journeys, up to 12 weeks before you travel.
