Fixing the Future

Smart devices such as smartwatches, phones, and speakers are increasingly popular but tend to be short-lived and expensive to repair, then end up sitting on a shelf unused or even thrown away, ultimately polluting the planet.

A team of researchers from the FIXING THE FUTURE project at the University of Edinburgh are visiting the Mitchell and are interested in speaking to you about the ‘right to repair’ and how it could be used to improve longevity of consumers’ electronics.

They want to learn from and listen to your views and experiences during this 90-minute workshop.

The workshop will:

Provide a short overview of the project. Let you speak about your experience of getting broken electronics fixed (or not). Discuss what you think the ‘right to repair’ is and what it should do. Discuss the law, what it is getting it right or what needs to be done differently.

They will be running this as a research workshop, where they will record discussions

with your consent. They will compensate for your time with a £15 shopping voucher.
