How to buy and renew your Weekly Train Ticket
You can buy and renew your weekly train ticket online, with the ScotRail app, via a ticket vending machine, or at a ticket office. If you have one of our free Smartcards, you can simply load your ticket to it every time you buy one. You will need to supply a photo, which can be taken with your smartphone, should you wish to obtain a new Smartcard.
Paper Season Tickets require a photocard, which is free from ScotRail booking offices and travel centres. You just need to take along a passport sized photo.
Paper Weekly Season Tickets are valid on all operators’ services. Smartcard Season Tickets are valid on ScotRail and LNER services.
You can buy your new Weekly Season Ticket in advance or on your first day of travel. Online purchases must be made at least four hours before you travel.
Should I get a daily ticket or a Season Ticket?
Due to the Off-Peak fares all day long trial, we've designed a Season Ticket Calculator to allow customers who travel by train regularly on the same route to compare the cost of a daily return ticket to the cost of a Season Ticket. This will help you find the best-value rail ticket to suit your needs.
By telling us the number of days you plan to travel per week, and the length of ticket you want to commit to, we can calculate the best value tickets for your journey from the following:
- Anytime Day Return
- Weekly Season
- Monthly Season
- Annual Season
Where there are no Anytime Day Return fares available, the Calculator will only return the Season Tickets for that journey.
